Electrolysis
1. What is Electrolysis?
Electrolysis permanently removes individual hairs from the face or body. By using a medical device, electrolysis destroys the growth center of the hair with either chemical or heat energy. A very fine probe is inserted into the hair follicle at the surface of the skin. The hair is then harmlessly removed with forceps.
2. Who is a candidate for Electrolysis?
Everyone is a candidate for electrolysis. Electrolysis eliminates unwanted hair on all skin and hair types on both Men and Women. Electrolysis can be used on the hairline, eyebrows, ear, top of the nose, cheeks, sideburns, upper and lower lip, chin, throat, neck, shoulders, back, chest, breasts, abdomen, arms, legs, bikini line, hands, feet, toes and fingers. Electrolysis is also very popular with men for permanent hair removal. Popular areas for permanent hair removal for men include hairline, eyebrows, shoulders, back, beard lines, neck, chest, ears, and nose. Electrolysis can also treat ingrown hairs, which is a serious problem for many men because it causes irritation. Electrolysis is effective on all hair colors, blond, white, gray or red, as well as all skin tones. Any age is safe for electrolysis.
3 .Can women begin or have Electrolysis treatments during pregnancy?
It is perfectly safe to treat pregnant women, but the breast and abdominal area should not be treated after the sixth month of pregnancy because of tenderness and possible hormone stimulation. We suggest that you check with your doctor before beginning treatment.
4. Why should I choose Electrolysis over other temporary methods like shaving and waxing?
Electrolysis is a very safe and effective method of eliminating unwanted hair permanently. It works on the largest variety of skin and hair types. With waxing and tweezing, ingrown hairs and discoloration may result. Additionally, they may cause an increase in hair growth activity. Depilatories and Shaving can cause an irritation to the skin while the hair re-grows quickly. These methods usually require a lifetime of maintenance. They can appear inexpensive but cost more due to long term use and are found to be inconvenient.
5. How many treatments are required?
The total number of treatments needed is different from person to person. Your individual treatment plan will be discussed during your initial consultation which is complimentary. Treatments can be scheduled in 15 minute intervals. Unwanted hair will be gone forever once the series of treatments have been completed.
6. Are all hairs eliminated in one treatment or is regrowth to be expected?
Excessive hair growth can range from baby fine hair to dark, coarse hair on the face and body. Deep, coarse hairs cannot always be eliminated with one treatment. Additional treatments may be required to break down the hair growth cells. Your Electrologist will discuss a treatment plan based on your particular needs during your consultation.
7. What is the normal growth cycle of a hair?
Hairs have various cycles of growth. Many are not visible on the surface of the skin at the same time. The follicle produces the hair from the blood supply and will discard it eventually through shedding. The process of growth, rest and replacement are known as the hair growth cycle. The sequence of events is repeated constantly until a hair ceases to be formed.
8. What does Electrolysis feel like?
v
Thanks to continually advancing technology, Electrolysis is more comfortable than ever before. Many patients feel only a mere tingling. A topical anesthetic can be applied if needed.
9. Does electrolysis have any side effects on the skin?
There are no permanent side effects. Some patients may experience a slight redness during or immediately after a treatment, but this will last only for a short time. Electrolysis is a very safe method of permanent hair removal. There are no harsh chemicals used, unlike depilatories or bleaches.
10. Can hairs be removed from moles?
Hairy moles can be treated with the permission of a doctor.
11. How should I choose an Electrologist?
Electrologists are people who have undergone training to professionally administer the electrolysis procedure. Many states require that electrologists be licensed or certified within the state in order to practice electrolysis. During your consultation, ask questions about your treatments. Some questions may include: how the procedure will feel; an estimate on the amount of treatments you will likely need; the cost, how long will each treatment be and what is the background of the Electrologist and the number of clients they have treated.
